I leave Seattle without Yelping about some of my favorite spots....Smith was a regular watering hole for the law school crew and I spent plenty of time here with my said gin and tonic with Hendricks and extra limes.
The scene here was much more manageable than at Linda's or even King's....I didn't have to crawl over people or deal with the Chad Brad crew....granted its only a matter of time till the Fremont and Belltown crew descends on our precious Cap Hill enclave....ah Smith

El Farolito
Category: Mexican
Neighborhood: Mission
He didn't pause a second to tell me El Farolito. Since this initial encounter I have been back a handful of times. So far my standbys are the Super Chorizo Burrito and the Super Chile Relleno Burrito...I even added Carnitas to it one day (yea...im frisky).
Anyway...the Agua Fresca is amazing too. It actually tastes more like fruit than sugar which is hard to find.
So the burritos are disgustingly cheap and are filled with gooey cheese, decently seasoned rice, sour cream, and *gasp* actual avocado.
I just had one this afternoon and now I think I may have to head there again tomorrow....Thank God for El Farolito and David's recommendation!

Anyways I dragged my sad Bar Books and sat down right away as a table of one. I ended up being seated at a huge booth even after the place was full and people out the door. Another bonus was the free beer...;)
Anyways, I wish that swayed my review, but alas i must be honest and impartial. The fried chicken was just that. The skin was decently crispy, but the meat underneath was not that super moist goodness I was expecting. The side of collared greens were pretty decent, but the macaroni and cheese was yuck.
One of the major saving graces was the cornbread that erred on the side of sweet over savory. I could have had about five of those and forgo the rest of the meal.
Dessert was sweet potato pie, but its sad when you are eating something and know you could make it better without any southern roots....Yep...Meh.
Also, i know I'm going to catch hell for this, but the clientele of Marina-esque Chad Brads, didn't help at all either. Its hard not to be privy to conversations about getting "wasted" the night before. Wow...I feel old.

I never went here for the bread, although it looked awesome. I was all about the pastries.
Perfectly, flaky scones, with just the right amount of butter and cream cut in. If you really sit and savor it you will taste all the components meld into buttery amazingness.
This place definitely blows most of the other pastry options in the Market out of the water. I do love Piroshky, but when I'm not in the mood for that I'll come get a delicious cookie or brownie, or scone, or basically anything that comes out of their oven and stroll through the crowds.
I'm dreaming of it right now....that's a place that really must have spoken to my stomach heart strings.

Anyways I caved and boy was I glad I actually let him decide. The lunch was great. We had the typical spring rolls, but they were perfectly balanced and fresh. We also had some kind of chicken sate that was complemented with a great tangy sauce.
But the true deal sealer was the minced shrimp wrapped around sugar cane!!!
Lucky for me he loves dessert so we got the fried banana goodness! Well worth it. And don't freak over the "weird" drinks, they are amazing, with fizzy, bubbly, goodness!
This was a first for me, and now that I'm in SF I look for it at every Vietnamese restaurant I go into. And I have to say....nothing has compared yet.
Another SF quandary....This place better step up to the plate and play! Lest it get schooled by that little place up North....;)

Sitka & Spruce
Category: American (New)
Neighborhood: Eastlake
This is saying a lot!
i dream of Sitka down here and nothing comes close...even Boulettes, Bar Jules, NOPA, Delfina, SPQR, etc. etc. etc.
I don't know what it is about that special little spot on Eastlake, but I dream of it at night when I push out nightmares of failing the bar. When I visit again in September this will be my first stop off the plane and the last before I go.
If I could ever convince Matt to partner up down here SF wouldn't know what hit it!

Alongside Lark, Sitka and Spruce is my favorite dining destination for many reasons...
1. it is small and unassuming...tucked away in a seemingly nondescript shopping center....however once inside its like being in someones living room....or heck, more like my living room...worn in and well loved
2. the food is straight up local...the first night i went i ran into a friend from the school and this amazing couple farming out near Renton....they had just dropped off fresh produce and i was lucky enough to dine with them....yep the guys and gals at Sitka are doing it right
3. the food is straight up amazing....this is not frou frou, but instead true to the ingredients...usuall y under five in my estimation...my octopus was fork tender...the pork belly and mushrooms was decadent....and the sauteed kale was ridiculous....and don't get me started on dessert with olive oil gelato....insanity!
4. the price is definitely right....everything hovering under $15 and with two dishes you are set to go....plus wine is super affordable as well
5. brunch here is the s**t! For a flat 17 bones you get an "all you can eat" spread including salads, bread, rillete, pound cake (from heaven) and a choice of "entree." We are talking a goat cheese blintz, with nettles and a fried egg!
All in all...I am sad I found this place so late in my short time here in Seattle, but I plan on making up for lost opportunities by dining here as frequently as possible.

I came here for the first time post-graduation party and brought some friends along. I don't think we were drunk/etc. enough to get into the crazy psychedelic dancing that was going on in the room next to us so we just kind of held down the fort at the bar.
Drinks are decent, but I just loved how non-Belltown this place was. I know I probably just jinxed the whole thing, but I can't wait to come back on my next trip and partake in some funky gyrations...;)

Philly Fevre
Category: Sandwiches
Neighborhood: Central District
For some reason after three years on Cap Hill, I never got to the Fevre till my last week in Seattle. This being the case I decided to go out with gusto and order three sandwiches....Yes...please Gasp, I know I was heaving for air after eating one of said sandwiches. The lights should have gone off when I got home and pulled the sandwich out of the bag....The covering was wet, and no water did not get in there....this was dripping in oil and grease and pure goodness.
Yes, its disgusting if you think about it...But
JUST DON'T THINK AND EAT IT!....I promise.
This may be a once a year thing, but damn its worth it.

Club Lagoon - CLOSED

Come on guys....
Don't you love the "classy" clientele and the sick beats in this place.
My only experience entailed a night of Reggae-ton for a Latino Law Convention. I distinctly remember lots of couples dry humping on the dance floor and being stomped on by the cheapest set of heels I have seen or felt in a long a$# time.
Needless to say...not my most favorite memories, but in the scheme of the Seattle dance scene not too bad....
At least I didn't punched out like I did at Trinity...can we say Ghetto Much?

This is the new Matt Dillon venture and basically anything he touches turns to gold. We should all be supporting this new endeavor. Currently they are open on specific nights for one 7pm seating, but I'm sure once they get things in place it will be a more regular affair.
After trying a ton of stuff in the Bay Area I feel I can adequately assess just how magical Sitka and Spruce is to the culinary world. What's going on up in Seattle is special and we should keep fostering this kind of wonderfulness.....so thats about it from this foggy soapbox....Get thee to the Corson Building....you'll thank me I promise!
